It's Time To Delegate A Part Of Your Business

Happy 2024! Here i am taking a stab at writing a blog post where I aim to share some of my experiences in managing Shopify stores. This blog post will talk about the importance of delegating a part of your business to another person - because face it. If we want next level growth, we have to delegate and free up our time for the bigger things. And depending on your business size, you can outsource different tasks that will help free up your time.

Why Delegate in Your Ecommerce Business?

Focus on Core Competencies:

Delegating tasks allows entrepreneurs to focus on what they do best – driving the vision of their ecommerce brand. By offloading routine and time-consuming responsibilities, you can channel your energy into strategic planning, product development, and other core competencies that define your brand. As a shop manager, it’s obvious that my clients delegate the shop management to me so that during routine meetings, we get to talk about our campaigns and directions for future projects. It’s such a relief for them not to think about what’s happening behind the scenes; why the theme is not working, why the abandoned cart rates are rising, why our chargeback rates are high - all these, I tackle and put into the proper context so that we can discuss, decide, and move forward accordingly.

Scale Your Business Efficiently:

As your ecommerce business grows, the demands on your time will multiply. Delegating tasks ensures that your operations remain efficient and scalable. It prevents burnout and enables you to adapt to the increasing complexities of a growing business without sacrificing quality. Of course, as a business owner-  this is where you want to go! And the path to it requires delegation, trust, and letting go. I know, some parts of that sentence was a little hard to take - but if you think about it, CEOs, COOs don't do everything on their own. They have trusted team members who help paint the full picture for them - and that’s what I visualize for my clients: to assume their roles as CEOs and COOs for their thriving business!

Tap into Specialized Expertise:

No one person can be an expert at everything. Delegating allows you to bring in specialized skills and knowledge that can elevate specific aspects of your business. Whether it's digital marketing, customer service, or, in my case, Shopify store management, collaborating with experts enhances the overall proficiency of your operations.

Increased Productivity:

When tasks are delegated to individuals who are skilled in those areas, productivity skyrockets. Efficient delegation means work is completed faster and often with higher quality. This not only frees up your time but also ensures that each aspect of your business is handled by those who excel in it. Don’t you want that for your business?

Use Project Boards

Using a project board to manage tasks is a strategic approach that enhances organizational efficiency. By visually mapping out tasks, assigning responsibilities, and tracking progress, a project board provides a clear overview of project status, fostering collaboration and ensuring everyone stays aligned with project goals. It streamlines communication, minimizes delays, and serves as a central hub for effective task management, ultimately contributing to successful project outcomes. - I personally love using Monday.com for this.

Steps to Start Delegating in Your Ecommerce Business:

Self-Assessment:

Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. Identify tasks that align with your skills and those that could be better handled by someone else. This honest self-assessment forms the foundation for effective delegation.

Task Prioritization:

Not all tasks are created equal. Prioritize responsibilities based on their impact on your business and their alignment with your core competencies. Routine tasks like order fulfillment, inventory management, and customer service are great starting points for delegation.

Delegate Incrementally:

Delegation is a gradual process. Start by assigning smaller, less critical tasks to build trust with your team or collaborators. As you become more comfortable with the delegation process, gradually move on to more significant responsibilities.

Effective Communication:

Clear communication is the bedrock of successful delegation. Clearly articulate your expectations, deadlines, and desired outcomes. Regular check-ins and open lines of communication ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards shared goals. When it comes to effective communication, I find it useful to maximize the following tools:  email, slack, our project board, and Zoom for our scheduled monthly alignment meetings.

Invest in Training and Resources:

When delegating, consider investing in training and resources for your team. This not only improves their skills and capabilities but also fosters a sense of empowerment and engagement. But of course, when working with seasoned experts, you can count on the fact that they know what they’re doing and are able to push through tasks with ease and minimal supervision. In this sense, it would feel like working with an awesome partner!

In the fast-paced world of ecommerce, mastering the art of delegation is not just a luxury; it's a necessity for sustainable growth. By recognizing the value of focused entrepreneurship, entrepreneurs can unlock the full potential of their businesses. And for those seeking a trusted ally in this journey, a shop manager with expertise in platforms like Shopify can be the secret weapon that propels your ecommerce brand to new heights.
